California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse Rating

The National Training and Development Curriculum (NTDC) has been rated as having promising research evidence (scientific rating of ‘3’) with high relevance to the child welfare system.

Why is this significant?

Getting a rating in the California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse for Child Welfare (CEBC) means that NTDC has been reviewed and assessed for its effectiveness in addressing gaps in foster parent preparation that can lead to increases in foster parent retention and more stable placements for older children, children of color, and children struggling with behavioral challenges based on scientific research.

A breakdown of what this rating could mean for you as a program implementer

NTDC has been officially recognized as having promising research evidence: In essence, NTDC’s rating in the CEBC signifies that NTDC has been vetted and recognized as a valuable resource for public child welfare agencies and their private contractors seeking to implement an effective foster and adoptive parent training intervention in their communities.

Scientific Rating Scale
Programs that are selected to be listed in the CEBC receive a rating on a 1-to-5 scale indicating the strength of the research evidence supporting their effectiveness. NTDC was rated as level 3 which means promising research evidence.
Increased Visibility and Credibility
Being rated in the CEBC has enhanced the visibility and credibility of NTDC. It signifies that NTDC is grounded in research and improves outcomes for children and families.
Potential for Funding and Implementation
Some funding sources, like the Title IV-E Prevention Services Clearinghouse, prioritize programs with specific evidence-based ratings. Utilizing NTDC as your preferred foster, adoptive and kinship parent training curriculum can therefore increase opportunities for your state, tribe or territory to draw down funding to support implementation of the program in your community.
Child Welfare System Relevance
In addition to the scientific rating, NTDC was assessed for the program’s relevance to the child welfare system and was rated as high. (Relevance is rated as either high, medium, or low).
